Namaste Pacific's Beginner's Yoga class is the perfect place to start your Yoga journey. Appropriate for people new to Yoga, this class introduces the core postures of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system in a step-by-step manner, creating a strong foundation for your Yoga practice. Instruction will be given as to the correct Ashtanga Yoga breathing method, called ujjayi breathing, alignment, and points of focus which are called drishti. This class is an excellent introduction to the potential therapeutic benefits of Yoga, including promoting a healthy back.
Ashtanga Yoga Improvisation
Namaste Pacific's Improvisation class is faster paced, with the postures being linked together in a "flow," practicing the vinyasa method of one movement per breath. Postures are drawn from the Ashtanga Yoga Primary and Second Series, and variations of the postures are given. Preparation for headstand, shoulder stand, and full backbend may be included. These classes are appropriate for students who wish to not only get a good workout but also experience the traditional flow of a led Ashtanga class in a one-hour class format.
Mysore Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system as it is practiced today is taught in the style of Sri K. Pattahabi Jois of Mysore, India. Hence the name “Mysore Style,” or simply “Mysore,” is used to describe the traditional method of Yoga practice from Pattahabi Jois’ hometown. Not only is this a traditional way to practice Ashtanga Yoga, it is one of the best ways to really deepen and further your Yoga practice. Mysore is an open class format, where each student practices independently under the guidance of an instructor. Going at your own pace, and working on each posture until you understand the mechanics and benefits of the pose, Mysore provides an excellent format to really make the Ashtanga Yoga Vinyasa system your own daily practice.
Ashtanga Yoga First Series
Namaste Pacific’s Ashtanga Yoga First Series class is an all-levels class which offers an exploration of the postures which make up the first series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system. Each class starts with sun salutations, followed by the traditional standing sequence poses, and ends with the traditional finishing poses. Each class offers a different focus and postures will be selected accordingly, making this a great way to learn the First series, or continue to deepen your practice.
Ashtanga Yoga Second Series
Not necessarily harder than our Ashtanga Yoga First Series class, Namaste Pacific’s Ashtanga Yoga Second Series class introduces a different selection of poses. Whereas the First Series has a lot of forward bends, the Second Series adds backbends, more arm balances, and inversions to the menu. We start each class with sun salutations, followed by the traditional standing pose sequence, and then we have fun with sequences from the Second Series. It's a slightly different mix in each class. Instruction is given for arm balances, inversions, challenging back-bends, and more. This class is open to students of all levels, and is a great way for beginning and more experienced students to dig deeper into the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system. If you are new to Ashtanga Yoga, don’t worry! We offer modifications, use of props, and lots of chances to rest and observe.
Ashtanga Yoga Full Primary Series
Namaste Pacific’s Ashtanga Yoga Full Primary Series class offers the entire Primary Series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga system taught in a guided format with alternative and transitional postures provided when needed.
