It's a new day, and you're feeling good... You've stocked the fridge with fresh organic produce and last week's over-indulgence at the ice cream parlor or county fair is a distant memory. You're determined now to spend at least a month, well definitely a week, but for sure a few days preparing your own meals, eating healthy, detoxing and getting back into the swing of healthy living and looking after yourself. With that, the phone rings and your friends (or beloved life partner) would like to meet for dinner at a restaurant.
Is Sugar The New Health Food?

This morning I noticed another popular soda manufacturer displaying a proud “Now Made With Real Sugar” phrase on the soda can.
Great. No, really I do think this is a good thing. It's just that the spin that sugar is getting right now is quite amusing, it's as if the advertising executives from food manufacturers are trying to make sugar out as the new health food of 2010.
First, Do No Harm...

There is a beautiful ancient latin maxim, Primum non nocere, which means "First, do no harm". Although the exact origins of this phrase are unclear, we know that it has guided physicians from the throughout the ages, reminding them that any medication or procedure they recommend to patient should ultimately improve their health and well-being and most importantly - do them no harm.
Somehow, somewhere in the search for ever larger pharmaceutical company profits, it seems that the meaning of this phrase has been lost. Modern pharmaceutical drugs often have the potential to cause more harm than any good that they could do!
