Krill Oil is one of natural health's best kept secrets. It is not only a high quality Omega-3, 6 & 9 supplement, but also a powerful antioxidant! This combination of constituents gives it some truly amazing benefits. So let's look at some of the reasons that people are using Krill Oil:

What are the benefits of Omega 3 Fatty Acids - EPA & DHA?
Krill Oil, like fish oil, contains both of the Omega-3 fats: Eicosapentanoic Acid (EPA) and Docosahexanoic Acid (DHA). It's important to note that the only Omega-3 that flaxseed provides is Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA). Your body can only convert very small amounts of ALA into EPA and DHA, and then only if your body has enough enzymes to do so. Consuming Krill Oil is therefore a more reliable way of ensuring that you get enough EPA and DHA.*
It is specifically the EPA and DHA Omega-3 fats that scientific research has shown to provide heart support and other health benefits.*
Fish oil, as you probably well know, also contains both EPA and DHA, so why then is Krill Oil superior? Fish oil has very weak antioxidant properties and is also extremely perishable, meaning that it quickly goes rancid inside your body. What this all means then is that; the more fish oil you take, the more antioxidants you need to include in your diet to counteract the oxidation and free radical problems caused by fish oil!
Krill Oil has changed all of this, as an extremely potent antioxidant, Krill Oil does not go rancid in your body and does not increase your need for supplemental antioxidants in your diet or supplements. In fact, Krill Oil adds to your antioxidant protection because it is so potent.
Krill Oil is a powerful source Antioxidants
Krill oil contains canthaxanthin and astaxanthin, both powerful antioxidants. In fact, Krill Oil is 48 times more powerful than fish oil on the ORAC (Oxygen radical absorptance capacity) scale, which is a measure of the antioxidant potential of foods.
The benefits of Krill Oil
Studies have shown Krill Oil to be very effective at reducing LDL-cholesterol, raising HDL-cholesterol, and lowering blood sugar. It has also been shown to be effective in treating the pain and inflammation from rheumatoid arthritis and aches and pains in general. Symptoms of PMS and dysmenorrhea were also found to be relieved in one large study. Krill Oil was also found to be effective in the treatment of adult ADHD. It is interesting to note that in all these studies Krill Oil was tested against fish oil and not simply against a placebo.
The problem with getting Omega-3's from eating fish
I still remember the day when I learned that the skin of most of the salmon that is available to us at stores is not naturally pink, but gray! I gotta tell you, I actually felt a little cheated! Pink dye is actually added to the food of most of our salmon to dye the skin pink, in fact an entire industry exists which provides pink dye for salmon to fish farmers. A salesman visits fish farms with a book of pink color swatches and the fish farmers can choose the shade of pink that appeals to them the most. My first reaction to learning this was: "They can't possibly be allowed to do that!", but sadly this practice is not illegal and fish farmers are actually legally allowed to dye the color of commercially produced fish to any color they like!
Many people like to add salmon to their diets to boost their intake of Omega-3's and in fact, salmon's natural pink color is due to the fact that their diet consists of a high amount of Krill. When you consider the diet of commercially raised salmon, it's hardly surprising, farmed salmon and other fish are fed a diet consisting mainly of corn and other grains meaning that their Omega-3 levels are very low and instead they contain high amounts of Omega-6 oils which cause many health problems for people.
Mercury, PCB and contamination from other toxins is now also a big problem when it comes to seafood and reports are showing us that farmed salmon and fish seem to have higher levels of these contaminants!
Wild caught Alaskan salmon is, for the most part, relatively free of contaminants and I would recommend eating it. However, the quality does come at a price and wild Alaskan salmon doesn't come cheap.
Because of this, our Namaste Naturals - Krill Oil is guaranteed PCB tested.
Omega-3's are so vitally important to our health, and personally I have found that Krill Oil is one of the best and surest ways to consistently get enough Omega-3's that are free of contaminants, high in Omega-3's and reasonably priced.
